USA Today sues OpenAI and seeks more than $250 million in damages
The publisher and its affiliated newspapers allege OpenAI used hundreds of thousands of copyrighted articles without permission to train its models. According to Unite.AI, the lawsuit was filed in federal court in New York on October 8, 2026, and also alleges chatbot responses substitute for the publishers’ original journalism.
